Do you have leg pain? Pay attention. This segment is for you. Do you have pain? Do you have swelling? Do your legs look like this? Well, if that's the case, I'm at Lynch Vein and Aesthetics, and Dr. Lynch says he can help you. Let's go meet him.
Matt Lynch:
I'm Dr. Matt Lynch with Lynch Vein and Aesthetics. I have 18 years of surgical experience, and I can help you.
Terri:
Knock, knock.
Matt Lynch:
Hi, Terri.
Terri:
Oh, hi, Dr. Lynch. Thank you for allowing us to come in. What are you doing to your patient?
Matt Lynch:
This is Holly, and I'm doing a venous ultrasound of her veins. She came to see me with varicose veins. She has some burning and swelling in her legs. And at her consultation, we decided that the next step should be an ultrasound to determine how bad her veins are and how bad the blood is flowing in the wrong direction down her legs.
Terri:
Is she having pain?
Matt Lynch:
She is. She has pain and swelling at night. It does get better when she elevates her legs at night. With her job, it's difficult to wear compression socks, which can help with your symptoms.
Terri:
Ah, okay. Let's talk about varicose veins. We're looking at some images right now that are quite frankly disturbing and a bit mind-blowing.
Matt Lynch:
Absolutely.
Terri:
How do people let it go that long? It seems awfully painful.
Matt Lynch:
It can be. It can cause lots of different symptoms, including burning, heaviness, aching, inability to sleep through the night. When it gets to the point where it's interfering with your daily life or your favorite activities, that's when you need to have something done with your veins. It's a lot easier to treat veins before they get to the point where they're huge, ropey veins like you're seeing now.
Terri:
Yeah, very unsightly. And like I said, they even look painful. What's happening to the veins. Why are they bulging out like that?
Matt Lynch:
What happens is the veins have valves inside of them that should move the blood in one direction towards the heart. What happens is people get older, or they have inflammation of the veins, those valves stop working effectively, and the blood can flow back down the leg, flow out to the smaller veins on the surface of the leg, and then you see varicose veins.
Terri:
Does it take a long time for him to get that bad?
Matt Lynch:
Typically, it does, but I've seen patients very young. I had a patient in Wisconsin who was 21, who had a vein that needed to be treated.
Terri:
Okay. All right. So you can do that or treat those types of veins right here in your office?
Matt Lynch:
Absolutely. We do the consultation. We do the ultrasound. And any treatment you may need happens right here in the office.
Terri:
Excellent. All right. Let's talk about the aesthetics of it all. You know, a lot of ladies can totally relate to those unsightly spider veins. They don't generally hurt, do they?
Matt Lynch:
No, they don't. But they are unsightly like you said. And in a place like Phoenix where people are not wearing pants all the time-
Terri:
Well, we're wearing pants.
Matt Lynch:
Right.
Terri:
There just shorts.
Matt Lynch:
Exactly, wearing shorts, so we want our legs to look nice. Those veins may not be medically serious, but they can cause some anxiety. We treat those right here in the office with either sclerotherapy, which is an injection of a special medicine that irritates the veins. Then they collapse. Or we use laser therapy, which heats up the veins and then causes them to collapse as well.
Terri:
Excellent. Now, let's talk insurance coverage. That's a big question everybody has. The treatments that you do, you know how all of this system, I'm going to say works, the insurance system, because you were actually part of it for a while. You can actually help people get the treatments covered if they can't?
Matt Lynch:
Absolutely. Yeah, I was a vein expert for a major healthcare insurance company in the US, and I did prior authorizations for vein treatments. So I know all the information that your insurance company is going to be looking for when it comes time to review your case. And I will be very frank with you if I don't think your insurance will cover it when we do the ultrasound.
Terri:
Excellent. All right. But in the meantime, the consultations are .
Matt Lynch:
Absolutely.
Terri:
All right, there you go. Thank you, Dr. Lynch.
Matt Lynch:
Thank you.
Terri:
I'll let you get back to work.
