What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

We can do our best to even out your irregular, unbalanced skin with our laser skin resurfacing treatments at Lynch Vein & Aesthetics located in Peoria, AZ, serving Phoenix and the West Valley. You may have some imperfections in your skin, like hyperpigmentation patches, acne scars, less than ideal skin texture, wrinkles, and more to improve. Our board-certified general surgeon and medical director, Dr. Matthew Lynch, can offer you noninvasive laser sessions with his Harmony XL PRO laser and Opus® plasma systems to exfoliate the layers of dead and damaged skin cells on your facial skin. Both of these innovative Alma lasers help to treat a number of skin concerns through laser skin resurfacing. This is a wonderful aesthetic treatment to consider if you want clearer, softer, and younger-looking skin. Based on the needs of your skin, we can customize the settings on the laser for your needs accordingly. Dr. Lynch may recommend our "lunchtime facelift" with our non-ablative ClearLift™ treatments as well. If you are considering adding to your skin health routine, we invite you to speak with Dr. Lynch and our experienced team at Lynch Vein & Aesthetics during a private consultation.

What are the benefits of laser skin resurfacing?

Over-the-counter topical treatments and home care regimens can do wonders for the skin, but sometimes we need a little extra boost to achieve our desired results. Laser skin resurfacing targets specific areas of concern to remove damaged or irregular skin cells. Patients at Lynch Vein & Aesthetics feel great about their improved skin appearance and texture after undergoing this versatile treatment. Best of all, Dr. Lynch personalizes sessions — so patients achieve their unique aesthetic goals.

Do I qualify for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Removing your dermal imperfections layer by layer is what LSR does best. This is an aesthetic treatment that is geared toward patients who have fair skin. If you see sun-damaged skin, age spots, acne scars, lines and wrinkles, redness, or pigmentation spots, Dr. Lynch can help improve these complexion issues. LSR works well if you have scaly patches, rough texture, or other irregularities on the surface of your skin.

This treatment is not recommended if you have very dark skin tones and/or an active acne outbreak, as this laser may damage your skin. Not to worry, Dr. Lynch can recommend other treatments for you during your consultation. He can also work with you to determine which laser technology you would benefit from and curate a customized treatment plan specifically for you and your skin goals. Additionally, it is important to know that there is a recovery period associated with these laser treatments, which may require up to 2 – 3 weeks for recovery.

HOW DOES LASER Skin Resurfacing WORK?

In your private consultation, Dr. Lynch will take the time to assess your skin to determine if LSR is right for you. He will give you information about how to prepare for the treatment at your next visit. Dr. Lynch will make a treatment plan designed to meet your skin care goals. He may also ask you about your level of comfort to determine if a topical anesthetic or a mild sedative may be needed to keep you relaxed during the treatment. We want you to have all the information you need to decide if you want to proceed.

Before your LSR session, we will prep one of our private treatment rooms with a Harmony XL PRO laser or Opus laser platform for you. Once your skin is prepared for the treatment, Dr. Lynch will guide the laser's handpiece over your facial skin. Depending on how deep your laser peel needs to go, you may feel your skin getting warm and other sensations. The laser energy is designed to eliminate damaged and dead skin cells while promoting new collagen growth.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER LASER SKIN RESURFACING?

A soothing gel will be smoothed over the treated skin, and you can go home for your recovery. The treated skin will appear pink, and there will be some irritation and swelling. These symptoms subside within a couple of days, and the skin peeling process will occur in a 3 – 5-day timeframe. For those who are receiving a deeper resurfacing treatment, your recovery time will last longer. The treated areas may be covered by dressings, and the irritation, burning, and swelling symptoms may be more intense. Pain medication can be prescribed to lessen these side effects. All patients should limit their UV exposure after their laser treatment and use sun protection frequently. For all intensities, the treated skin will naturally crust, flake, and peel off. It's important to avoid picking at the skin during the recovery process to prevent scarring and to protect your skin from environmental exposure. After the peeling is completed, the treated skin should feel smoother while also looking younger, clearer, and rejuvenated.
