Acne is surprisingly prevalent and affects a vast majority of people to some degree: about 85% of individuals aged 12 to 24 will experience at least a minor form. But it can appear at any age, and acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, afflicting up to 50 million people per year.

With so many treatment choices, why waste time and money on something that may be ineffective? For a treatment that's guaranteed to give you glowing skin, contact us at Lynch Vein & Aesthetics for a consultation with our board-certified general surgeon and medical director, Dr. Matthew Lynch. We also welcome you to visit our practice in Peoria, AZ.

What is acne?

The most common symptoms of acne vulgaris are scientifically known as comedones (small, skin-colored bumps known as whiteheads and blackheads), papules (tender, reddish bumps), or pustules (larger, pus-filled pimples).

What causes acne?

They're caused by blockages and inflammation in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands, which connect to the follicles and produce an oil called sebum. Therefore, acne most often appears in areas with the highest concentration of sebaceous glands, including the forehead, face, chest, shoulders, and upper back.

If a follicle becomes blocked with oil, bacteria, dead skin cells, or a combination of the three, it may swell and produce a bump known as a whitehead or a closed clogged pore. If the bump is open to the surface, it darkens as it's exposed to air and is known as a blackhead or an open clogged pore.

If a blocked follicle becomes inflamed or infected with bacteria, it produces a pimple: a red, tender bump with whitish or yellowish pus in the middle. Acne can also cause cyst-like lumps below the skin if the clog occurs deep within the follicle.

In addition to blockages, inflammation, and bacteria, a few other factors may influence acne, including hormonal changes, diet, stress, certain medications, and humid, sweaty conditions.

Our cutting-edge laser treatment options

We're proud to offer state-of-the-art acne treatment via the Harmony XL PRO system from Alma Lasers. This laser is non-ablative, so it does not damage the skin. Instead, it delivers heat deep into the dermis, the layer below the epidermis (the skin's surface), to stimulate cell regeneration from within. This revitalizing technique eradicates your current acne and helps prevent future breakouts. It also gets rid of old, unseemly acne scars and the darker hyperpigmentation spots that may have remained from past pimples.

And the procedure is quick and easy. For the best outcome, we recommend 3 – 6 sessions, each lasting only 30 minutes. Results may be visible within a week or so, with no major downtime or side effects to worry about.

You're only half an hour away from clearer, more radiant skin

Our patients are ecstatic about the dramatic improvements they observed after just a few sessions. And board-certified general surgeon and medical director Dr. Matthew Lynch would love to help you enjoy those same revitalizing, confidence-boosting results. So visit our office in Peoria, AZ, or contact us today at Lynch Vein & Aesthetics to take the first step toward a glowing complexion!
