What is a Microphlebectomy?
Varicose veins on the surface of our skin can be treated with a microphlebectomy or ambulatory phlebectomy. At Lynch Vein & Aesthetics, our board-certified general surgeon and medical director, Dr. Matthew Lynch, offers microphlebectomies for varicose veins in Peoria, AZ, as well as Phoenix and the West Valley. This is a minimally invasive varicose vein removal technique that Dr. Lynch can perform on an outpatient basis. While some men and women seek treatment for their bulging veins for aesthetic reasons, there are plenty of health benefits associated with vascular therapies. Not only can a microphlebectomy improve the appearance of your legs, but it also can:
- Give you relief from a painful, swollen, and diseased varicose vein
- Lower your risk for more advanced vascular conditions
- Improve your blood flow
- Heal without stitches or sutures (no scars)
- Be performed in our office
- Requires no downtime
If you have varicose veins close to the surface of your skin, you may qualify for a microphlebectomy. Deeper veins will need a different treatment. What are the benefits of microphlebectomy?
Varicose veins can make you feel self-conscious when wearing certain items of clothing. They may also cause pain, swelling, or cramping after extended periods of sitting down or standing. A microphlebectomy can reduce the appearance of varicose veins so you can enjoy showing off your body. Because this treatment also enhances blood flow to critical areas, our team may lower your risk for more advanced vascular conditions. Dr. Lynch has helped countless patients recover from the discomfort of varicose veins and enjoy a higher quality of life.
Will I qualify for a Microphlebectomy?
In qualifying for a microphlebectomy or another vascular treatment for varicose veins, it really comes down to how close your vein is to the surface of your skin. Dr. Lynch will also perform an evaluation of your vein and overall health in a private consultation. He will ask about your medical history, treatments you have tried in the past, and what you are comfortable with having done on an outpatient basis. Together, you will come up with a treatment plan that suits your medical needs while changing the appearance of the disfiguring, bulging vein in your leg(s).
Microphlebectomy Treatment Details
In one of our minor procedure rooms at Lynch Vein & Aesthetics, we will prepare your leg for the microphlebectomy. Your procedure may take between 30 – 45 minutes. You should expect to have a local anesthetic injected into your leg to numb the area. As an experienced, highly trained general surgeon, Dr. Lynch will make a micro-incision (less than 1 – 2 mm) into your skin to remove the vein. With your diseased varicose vein out of your circulatory system, blood flow should greatly increase in the area. All you should need is a bandage to cover the tiny incision. There will be no need for stitches or sutures. Dr. Lynch will want you to wear compression stockings as directed.
Microphlebectomy Recovery
A microphlebectomy does not require stitches, sutures, or post-procedural skin care to prevent scarring. You can return to normal activities as soon as you feel up to it in a day or two. If you have any concerning side effects, such as fever, infection, or substantial pain, please let our office know. We do want you to wear compression stockings to the knee or above the knee (as directed by Dr. Lynch) to help with blood circulation. We ask that you avoid strenuous exercises until Dr. Lynch releases you to resume them. We do want you to please continue to take a daily walk for at least 10 – 15 minutes.
